DNC flashback: Bill Clinton, 1992

Bill Clinton tonight gave his full-throated endorsement to Barack Obama, shutting up those (including myself) who wondered whether he might be half- throated... or even quarter-throated.

In President Clinton’s honor, I’m streaming a 3-minute piece of his acceptance speech at the 1992 Democratic National Convention.

Click here to hear it. You might be struck by some of the biographical similarities to Obama’s story: raised without a father... formative years spent with grandparents...

You can stream or download the entire speech by following this link to AmericanRhetoric.com.

Is his speech online anywhere? I can't believe they didn't show the whole thing in primetime :(

Somebody just put it up on YouTube, dez.

Here’s Part 1. Here’s Part 2. Here’s Part 3.

sadly, i can't listen to that excerpt you streamed and his emphasis, which i didn't remember him having, on women, supporting them thru good jobs and good healthcare, without thinking of how he let women down, esp. his own wife.

there was no effort during his term to equalize healthcare for women; in fact, i never heard a word about it after that speech.

probably lots of heartfelt promises made in speeches forgotten after elections.

^Pretty much all politicians make with the rhetoric on the campaign trail and then conveniently forget their promises once elected, Maria.

Thanks for the links, UBM! I'll check them out when I'm at a place where I can watch YouTube!

^ No problem, dez. I'm surprised you didn't stay up late to see the speech replayed on the cable news nets.

Maria: His great gift was -- and still is -- the ability to say what people want to hear.

I: a) didn't know about that and b) had to get up before the crack of the crack of dawn for work. I should have time this weekend to get caught up on the Billy :-)
